ZAKYNTHOS ISLAND

Zakynthos or the Blossom of the East is one of the seven Ionian Islands. It is the second most populous island in the Ionian Sea and is located southwest of Greece. You can visit the island either by airplane or by boat from the port of Kyllini in the Mainland. The island was named after the first settler Zakynthos. Reports are also made from the hostess as she calls it Yliessa that is to say, because of the many trees and the green which still exists today.

Zakynthos is one of the islands with rich cultural tradition, history and poetry. The most important Zakynthian poet is Dionisios Solomos who wrote the National Anthem of Greece.
